A feature of the mornings parade fio-tn the body of the Court to the witness stand, was the number uf expensively attired women.Margaret Stevenst a quietly dressed, attractive young woman, living at Claremont, claimed a divorce from George John Stevens, taxi-driver, of Adeialde-terrace, Perth, She alleged that Stevens and a young woman named Elsie May Lodge had lived together as man and wife at an apartment house in Adelaide-terrace. Mrs. Stevens said she was married to Stevens at Claremont on April 11* 1921. and had three children, the youngest being two years old.In September. 1927. she received an anonymous letter concerning her husband's association with a woman. She spoke to her husband who denied the suggestions and she believed him. In September, 1928, business was bad in the taxi line and he suggested that she should go to Kurrawang and live with her mother for a while. She stayed there for ten weeks and they corresponded with each other, but he sent her no money,A GIFT TAXIWhen she returned to Perth, Stevens met her at the railway station and look her to his mother's place, while he lived at Cottesloe She stayed there threedays and rented a flat at Claremont*but Stevens did not fame lo live with her, and would not give her a satisfactory reason. In January, 1929, she heard that Stevens had gone to Albany and When she wrote to him for maintenance he said she could have the taxi. However, the taxi was no good to her for three months as it had met with anaccident and she had to borrow £100to pul it Into running order. The next she heard was that. Stevens was living at an apartment bouse in Adelaide-ter-race.A private Inquiry agent gave evidencethat In January last he discovered Stevens and the woman Lodge living together as man and wife and that the woman had Just given birth to a baby girl, of whkh Stevens wag the father. When told that his wife was instituting divorce proceeding* Stevens said he would be glad when it was all over so he could marry the girl.His Honor made the decree nisi returnable in six months. Stevens was ordered to pay the costs and Mrs, Stevens was granted the custody of the children. Mr. M.
