W. Scott, and j the People's Democratic Advocate,! edited by W. C. Gould, who died that year and was succeeded by the late F. If. Shaw.The year 1898 was marked by many important events for Dover, It *aw the dedication of the large now St. Joseph’s Catholic church, the completion of the first East Ohio Oas Co. line through this territory, the beginning of negotiations whereby the Reeves Iron Co. mills were p° t0 the American Sheet Tin Plate Co. which was merged into the Steel Corporation; the completion of the Tuscarawas County Telephone Company’s first lines, and many other important Industrial changes.The same year saw the beginning of the struggle for a municipal light Plant. The municipal waterworks had been built in 1896 but the town refused to pay $70 a year per light for the old time arc lamps for s reet lighting.
