THE DOOMED MEN.Another visit was paid to Mi-; chel and Chambers by the Mes-j pe NO EH Wednesday evening. On | entering the jail Louis Michel was T ; found kneeling hefore a chair on which was an open prayer book j and a burning wax taper and in p-1 his hands lie held l**ads, saying his prayer. He prayed fervently, but when the re[*orter appeared at the bars of the cage he rose and spoke freely. Michel said his soul and conscience are as white as the burning taper. He is prepared for death and wishes to have daily visits of the priestsand sisters. H»* said he was awaken from his slumber Tuesday night by voices who sang sweetly, and he saw Jesus Christ and Virgin Mary surrounded by Angels who ojieiied the doors of Ileaven, and he saw the graudor and delights of the kingdom of the just, of truth, and that his soul would go right through to Heaven. His body was dust, and dust thou shall return to dust!He was prevailed upon to save Chamlers if ho would throw some light on the murder, but calling Jesus Christ as a witness, he swore as a man who was preparing to die, that lie was innocent and know nothing of the murder.Chambers was met standing at the Imrs of his cage, he also spoke freely. He was visited by bis wife Monday, the first time since the first clays of February. He still persist in keeping his religion and die a true Methodist His pastor, Rev. F. D. Bowers, colored, visited him twice this week, and is preparing him to meet his death a6 a christain. He believes his soul will go to Heaven but he is not as enthusiastic as Michel, who 6ays he wished the day of his death was nearer, for him to leave this world of misery to enter the glories and delights of the beautiful kingdom above.We visited the prisoners in com|»any with Mr. T. J. Labbe, correspondent of the DeltA and jailer Eugene Bertrand. Both of the prisoners were glad of the visit and nked that we visit them every day, even during the night if we could not during the day.One of Chambers’ sisters is circulating a petition to have his seuteuce commuted to life imprisonment, but we do not belive with much success.
