COLUMBUS (AP) - Two women ignored the morning cold and stood together in the parking lot, staring at the front of the gray-paneled exterior of Gig’s tavern, a popular downtown lunchtime gathering place. One of them was crying. “I’ve always felt safe here,’’ said Connie Blackstone, 27, a teletype operator for Ohio Bell Telephone Co., situated across the parking lot, less than 100 yards away. Early Tuesday morning, a janitor found the front entrance to the tavern unlocked, walked in and discovered the bodies of a waitress, the night bartender and a customer. The victims were identified as Michelle Granger, 26, of suburban Grove City; Joseph ‘‘Jo Jo’’ Nebel, 21, of Columbus; and 38-year-old Elton Shorter, a customer who was the regional personnel manager for McDonald’s restau rants. All three had been shot at least once in the head, according to Franklin County Coroner William R. Adrian. Robbery was believed to be the motive for the city’s 25th, 26th and 27th homicides this year, Police Sgt. Clifford Davis said.
