PATOKA, REGISSAMUEL BRITT, 99,SUCCUMBS MARCH 5lirtrjailinsilt;anis]mroorycPimF(alth1,Samuel Britt, son of Samuel and Abigail (Roderick) Britt) was born in Preston County, West Virginia, January 15, 1845 and departed this life at the home of his son, Samuel H. Britt, March 5, 1944 at the age of 99 years, 1 month and 20days.He was united in marriage to Mary E. Gerrish, November 2, 1869.To this union was born six children, j jj( two prcding him in death, Viola at the age of 1 year and a son Albert, December 25, 1929.In early manhood he professed faith in Christ and united with the Wisher Baptist Church latex changing his membership to Patoka Baptist church and remained a faithful member until death.He came to Illinois with his parents when he was about 14 years of age, living his entire life here with the exception of one and one-half years in Kansas.His wif passed away November 28, 1904 and since that time he has lived in the homes of his children. He had a cheerful, uncomplainnig disposition being satisfied wherever he happened to be.He leaves to mourn his departure one daughter, Sarah E. Thalman, three sons, Samuel, Orville, and Olive Britt, all of Patoka, Illinois, also 19 grandchildren, 20 greatgrandchildren and 6 great-great grand children and a host of other relatives and friends. Two grandsons and two great grandsons are in the armed forces of their country.A precious one from us has gone,A voice we loved is stilled,A place is vacant in our homes, Which never can be filled.Funeral services were held at 2:09 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, at the local Baptist church.
