She was about twenty five years of age, the eldest of a family of seven children, the father, mother, four brothers and two sisters surviving.A private funeral was conducted Tuesday afternoon from the^ family residence, interment following in .the Musselman cemetery.Miss Cripe’s death was the first fatality from Spanish Influenza in this community. Several other members of the Cripe family are afflicted with the malady but none are considered serious, and it is thought that all will recover, 'fhere are also a number of other cases in the community, but none of them seem to be seriously afflicted and everypossible precaution is being taken to .prevent spreading of the epidemic.The disease usually develops the symptoms of both typhoid fever and pneumonia, and the very best of care is necessary to prevent taking cold.The following precautionary rules for the avoidance and lessening of the intensity of the epidemic of influenza, have been prepared by Dr. Wm. F. Lincoln advisor of the Lake Division American Red Cross, for distribution throughout the entire Lake Division territory, consisting of the states of Ohio, Indianaw _ and Kentucky. ,■***} Her** are the~rifles ~18 1S 1. All colds, however slight, should ?ro be treated as possible attacks of influenza. Patients affected by colds should stay at home and sterilize discharge from the nose and throat.2. Avoid feeling or spreading of the disease.3. Avoid crowds.4. Regulate bodily functions and keep them so.5. Avoid the breath or expelled secretions from people suffering from colds.6. Wash out the nose and throat two or three times daily by a nascl spray or douche and by gargle with a “normal salt solution”! li teaspoonful salt to one glass (8 ounces)* —clean water.)7. All those in attendance on patients should wear masks.8. Clothing should be warm anddry.
