In the past decades county and city officials, as well as citizens committees, have made numerous trips to Austin and Lubbock to confer with state and district highway officials in efforts to secure more pavement for county roads. I realize to question the advisability of the proposed paving project would have little if any popular support. However, there are some facts that should have been considered, and brought to the attention of business people affected, before the decision to pave was made.Tentative plans, according to the original announcement of the project, were to let the contract and hopefully have work started by June 1. And it was hoped that the work would be completed by the end of August.
