The Baytown Police Depart ment instigated the investiga tion and participated in the raid which led to the conviction Tuesday of Edgar Cherry Gant, 41, of Houston in Judge F. Lee Duggan’s 182nd district court in Houston. Police Chief John Wilkinson said Wednes day. Gant was convicted by a jury of nine women and three men of receiving and concealing stolen property and was sen tenced to eight years in prison. The December raid, in which Baytown police, Harris County Sheriff's deputies, FBI agents and Texas Rangers participat ed, uncovered a large number of articles stolen in the Bay town area among others stolen in other areas in a warehouse at 223 Harbor in Houston, Wilk inson said. Several other indictments are pending against Gant, Wikkinson said. Gant has continued his ap pearance bond, the clerk of Judge Duggan’s court said Wednesday, and in ten days he can file a motion for a new trial.
