Fifteen dairy herds in Lee County made DHIA records of 500 lbs. or more in 1969-70. It was announced by the association president Art Barnhart at their recent annual meeting in Dixon. Those herds were: LeRoy Kreger and Arnold Brooks; Ronald Pratt and Dr. C. R. Collins; Clarence Dippel; Willard Haberer and E. Falls; Rodney Bollman; Gene Messer; Harry Witmer; Yngve Johansson and Dan Beetz; Art Barnhart and Sperling Wm. Ehmen and Schott; Larry and Wesley Herwig; Robert Whiting and Broderick; Edmund Bush man; Elmer Hodges and Middleton and Fritts Farm. DHIA, Dairy Herd Im provement Association, is a cooperative, providing testing of each cow’s production and providing management guidance to herd owners. Archie Severson, Eldena, is the supervisor under the guid ance of the Cooperative Exten sion Service of the University of Illinois. Top herd in the county was owned by LeRoy Kreger and Arnold Brooks. They had the largest herd in the top 15 with 55 cows. The herd produced 16,736 pounds of milk and a 649 pounds butterfattest. Two of their cows posted all time high records for Lee County DHIA herds. One was ‘‘Posh’’, a 2-year old with a 19,697 pounds milk and 816 pounds test. The other was in the 4-year old division, “‘Corey”’ with 19,042 pounds of milk and 804 pounds test in 286 days. Most records are for 305 days. All time individual production records for a 305 day test period are held by a cow from the Clarence Dippel herd at Franklin Grove in 1968. As a 5- year old, she produced 25,640 pounds milk and 1,022 pounds of butterfat.
