Orpheus Club Plans Concerts In PhoenixEDITOR’S NOTE: The publisher of the Phoenix Jewish News is a charter member of this fine male chorus and he urges all who can to attend this concert.* * #The 33rd Annual Spring Concert will be one of the most outstanding concerts the Orpheus Chorus has ever sung. Honoring the years of the Civil War Centennial, a group of songs from the Civil War period will be sung. Against the backdrop of a flaming Arizona sunset, the 100-voice chorus — in new, colorful cowboy outfits — will sing a group of traditional as well as seldom-heard Western folk songs and ballads.THE ORPHEUS-sponsored Phoenix Boys Chorus — Harvey Smith, director — will be featured in a delightful group of songs. These boys are wonderful!Highlighting the part of the program in Western motif, the St. John’s Indian Dancers will perform some of their colorful dances. And Jerry Allen (“Mr. Banjo”) will play his individual stylings as well as accompany some of t h e chorus members. Many of you know that one of the principal objectives of the Orpheus Male Chorus is the use of our music as a means of furthering international understanding and good will. In Europe, in 1958, the newspapers called us America’s “Cowboy Ambassadors of Good Will.” We have accepted an invitation for this coming summer to help represent the United States at the huge Centennial Festival of the Deutscher Saengerbund (Organization of German Singing Societies) to he held in Essen, Germany.RESERVED seats for our concert are $2.50 and $1.50. They are available at the Linde Box Office in downtown Hanny’s.The concert will be held Mar. 12 and 13 at 8:30 p. m. in Phoenix Union High School Auditorium.SAY YOU SAW IT ADVERTISED IN THE PHOENIX JEWISH NEWS
