Major V. W. Howard, Command ing Officer of the Thomasville Army Air Field received his pro motion yesterday afternoon to Lieutenant Colonel. Colonel How ard has been in command at the Air Field for the past three months. Prior to assuming command here in Thomasville, he was Director of Operations and Training for three months. Before the outbreak of hostilities in 1941 Colonel Howard was a mem ber of the famous 8th Pursuit Group stationed at Langley Field, Virginia, and Mitchell Field, New York. Even before our entrance into the War, Colonel Howard, then Lieutenant Howard, had such «a brilliant record that he was with drawn from the 8th Pursuit Group and sent to Iceland to assist in organizing our forces there. It was here that he further demon strated his ability as an organizer. After eighteen months in Iceland he was returned to the States as an instructor and he has achieved an enviable record as Base Com mander here in Thomasville. An interesting sidelight is the fact that Colonel Howard met Mrs. Howard in Iceland. Mrs. Howard was then a Lieutenant in the Army Nurses Corps. She is now Captain Howard of the A. N. ©. presently stationed at Fin ney General Hospital. Lieutenant Colonel and Captain Howard re side at 701 South Broad Street in Thomasville. LIEUT. COL. V. W. HOWARD
