George Skegg is in disgrace. Not so much because of the 100 days’ sentence he got in police court Friday morn ing, but because he so far forgot him self as to attempt to clean out the Gil bert chop house with an ax. From time immemorial the razor has been looked upon as the weapon of the colored man. Even a gun is permissable in a long distance fight, but when a “Jap” at tempts to put up a fight at close quar ters with an ax that is certainly the limit. Last night the police were called in a hustle to quell a riot on Battle Row. They found that the scrap was over but a broken door was there as evidence of it. They arrested Skegg. This morning Judge Moon chided George for doing the fraternal chop pers’ stunt. Skegg said that Henry, a “galler feller,’ was the cause of it all, but Henry soon proved that his part in the encounter was confined to dodging the ax. The confinment of Skegg for three long months will assure a greater degree of comfort at the Gilbert estab lishment. Two drunks and four vags, who com pleted the line-up, were turned loose.
