wake himself up with?”Rather Cheap Pork, lames Smith, who lives one mile north of Veedersburgh, was arrested last Saturday by Marshal Sheer, of Veedersburgh, on a charge of stealing meat from his brother-m-law, Benjamin Hanley, The meat was taken, last Thursday night, and was valued at $17. Smith was seen leave his home at sun set, Thursday evening, in a spring wagon. He drove a horse that had a peculiarly shaped foot and it made a track which was easily distinguished from the tracks of other horses. This fact made it an easy matter to follow, and aided greatly in running down the guilty man. He had a preliminary trial at which he was bound over to court in $200 bond, in default of which he was sent to jail. The case was called up tor trial Monday, no one appearing against him. He plead guilty and was disfranchised tor four years and sentenced to imprisonment in the county jail for 10 days. In answer to the judge’s question, why he took the meat, Smith' replied that he had a large family of small children who were suffering tor want of something to eat. This together with the fact that no one appeared against him, no doubt, had some weight with the judge in giving him so light a sentence.oywas t thems withinThe pF ranka purscent.and 2foughfreelysixthfight,bledsprairnate 1rin.Perriiand awas crin.expermost - •lt; - ■■■—•—TVrtf' a /Th last f follovvoterconti*in amthantakeivel, snext
