An opportunityRENO COUNCILMEN Carl Bogart and Sam Dibitonto are a little off-base with their opposition to the proposed annexation of some 246 acres just south of the city. They’d be tossing away an opportunity and inviting needless problems that will descend on them sometime in the future. The land in question surrounds Huffaker School about a mile south of the city proper. It is owned by several parties who hope to develop it, and want it annexed so they’ll qualify for connection to the city's sewage disposal system. But state law does not allow the city to annex property that is not contiguous to the city limits. The only exception has been the Stead annexation, which required a special act of the Legislature. To cope with this, the owners propose that the property be linked to the city through a meandering of annexed land only 50 feet wide.
