WEST COLUMBIA The Alvin Yellowjackets eased past tough Dulles, 2-1, here Friday afternoon to clinch a spot in Saturday night's championship game of the Columbia baseball tourney. Friday's victory marked the straight victory for the squad, and ironically, it was the third straight time Alvin had held its opponent to bat one hit, their first run in the bottom half of the sixth inning to break up a real pitcher's duel. In that frame Tim Chaffin opened things up by reaching first on an error He moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt, and then scored with two outs when Toby Hall bashed out a single through the box Holding on to that narrow 10 lead the Yellowjackets cashed in for two big in surance runs in the final inning Bernie Repka started the inning out by walking, and with one out, Donnie Meyer was hit by a pitch After Scott McNutt took first on a base on balls to load the bases, the fun really started Repka and Meyers both stole home to produce the two runs Against Victoria Stroman the Yellowjackets fell behind 140 in the second inning but then proceeded to strip the Raiders with some dandy on the base paths Alvin tallied the tying run in the bottom of the second inning and then used a big four-spot in the fourth inning to break the tight game open From that point Alvin's pitcher Mike Ruelas com pletely baffled the Raiders with his wicked right arm The junior hurler went to the distance to pick up the vic tory In that big frame Chuck Daniels led things off by walking Chafin then was hit by a pitch Moments later McNutt drove in one run with a sacrifice fly A single by Meyers brought in another run and then a squeeze bunt by Repka brought home the other run Alvin tallied its two runs in the fifth when Daniel walked, Chefin doubled him home and then scored on an error
