Each of the brothers furnished bond'in tin* sum ! of $1000 for their appearance before the I next grand jury.The complaint was made by Deputy i State Fire Marshall Alfred M bite, who | has been working on the ease for some ; time. In the complaint the brothers are charged with unlawfully and maliciously i setting fire to and burning the dwelling i house and business houses, the -aid I dw elling house being occupied by Clift*.| Bluwkis and the business houses being | occupied by one or more of the brothers, situated in the. city of Spring Val-i ley in the county of Bureau, with in-tent to injure the insurers of -aid build 1 ings.The two buildings were located on ' | Dakota street and were formerly imcd by the late Anton Carp One of ihe building- w:r- M brick and in this \[r. 'Carp conducted his undertaking business and used the -ecoml floor for his living quarters. The store building just east : of it was a frame building and has always been used as a saloon. Some time after Mr. Carp’s death the property came into the hands of the Vassock Brnlt;*.At the time of the fire the opinion was expressed by some that the firr was of incendiary origin. The brick build | ing had not been used for other than ■ storing some old vehicles and an examination of these indicated that grease | or oil had been spread over them previous to the fiie. The circumstance** were called to the attention of the state fire marshal and the investigation which followed ha- resulted in the arrest of the three brothers.The buildings which were destroyed were the property of Mr. Walker of Danville, ill. Insurance in the amount of $fJKl was carried on each building, which amount would only cover a small part of Mr. Walker’s km-.
