The Police Jury met in regular session this day with the following members present.Dr. Clopton, President; Messrs.Stelly, B. L. Lafleur, Adraste Lafleur, Richard, Muller, Haas, Dailey, Arceneau, Guillory, Halphen, Deshotels, Bertrand, Durio, Vidrlne, Manuel.Mr. Halphen in the chair.Motion by Dr. Clopton—That the petition from the 4th ward, asking that the unpaid balance due J. L. Stewart on his 4th quarter road contract, year 1907, be paid him, be and the same is hereby tabled. Motion carried. Dr. Clopton in the chair.Motion by Mr. Savant—That Mr. J. E. Bacon be permitted the privilege of placing a pumping plant on the east side of Bayou Bcouf, provided that the said plant and connections be so arranged as not to interfere with public travel; provided further, that the work be done .mder the supervision of Mr. H. Savanr, member of the Police Jury of said ward. Motion carried. Motion by Mr. Adraste Lafleur—That the petition of taxpayers and residents of Villo Platte Prairie and Plaisance. praying for a public road from the Ville Platte public road to run between lands of Ermile Lafleur, Gustave Soileau and others to intersect the Grand Prairie and Plaisance public road, be received and accepted, and that a committee composed of Messrs. Sos-theqt Lalleur, Louis Sylvestrc and Alfred Devillo, he appointed to lay out said road as prayed for, without cost to the parish, and report at next regular meeting. Motion carried.Mitlon by Mr. Manuel—Tint the report of committee ap-ointed to sell contract for building ridee across Coulee-aux-Vache, be received and accep xl, committee dis-cha qed, and the su -i of fifty dollars ordered credited to Mr. Raymond De-ville out of the 8th ward funds of 1907. Motion carried.Motion by Mr. Manuel—That the report of committee appointed to sell contract for digging canal in Homere Fruge’s lane, across Alexandre Miller’s place, to drain public road, be received and accepted, committee discharged, and the sum of fort dollars ordered paid to Mr. Charles P out of the 8th ward funds of 1907. Motion carried.Motion by Mr. Haas—That a committee composed of Messrs. Wm. Chappelle, Joseph Johnson and JeBseKiug,Sr^be appointed toaacer:ain the probable cost of repairing the bridge across Cocodrie, near Science Hill, on road from Turkey Creek to Rapides line known as the Carroll bridge, and report at next regular meeting. Motion carried.Motion by Mr. Haas—That a committee composed of Messrs. Patrick Donohoe, M. 0. Monk, Louis Johnson, W. L. Clark, J.W. McCormick, Eloie Campbell and Austin Campbell, bo appointed to lay out a public road to extend along the Meridian line from the Postoffice at Turkey Creek via Pino Prairie station and Nez-Pique bridge to the intersection of the above mentioned Meridian line with the Mamou road at M. L. Fontenot’s, as prayed for, port at next regular meeting, carried.Motion by Mr. Haas—That a committee composed of Messrs. W. E. Gillet, Pat Donohoe, Landry Campbell, Stephen Deville, Jrn Willis Elliott, James West and David Elliot bo appointed to lay out a public toa beginning at or near the N. W. corner of Section 29,T. 2, S. R. I east, near Louis Deville, Sr., and Dr. J. E. Hawkins, and Stephen Deville, Sr., and Geo. E. Bock-oven and Sam’l Haas, thence south between W. E. Glllofc and railroad land, thence west between S. Haas and railroad, thence south between Haas and Haas land formerly owned by Randall and Carson, thence on lands of Landry Campbell, Hawkins Deville. Jeff West and Stephen Deville, Jr., thence running on railroad land known as the Cole land and Dr. J. E. Hawkins, thence on railroad land and Willis Elliott, thence railroad laud and David Elliott, thence James West, Sr., and David Elliott, thence running west to David Elliott, thence south to David Elliott and James West, Srn thence running south to James West, Sr., of which James West. Sr. objects, thonce running west to Meridian line, thence south two miles, thence west to town site or Pine Prairie station on Rock Island railroad; the said committee to report ut next regular meeting. Adam Guldroz, Geo. Singleton and Wade Higginbotham, and report made to this body on completion of said work.Messrs. Durio, Stelly, B. L. Lafleur, Adraste Lafleor, Richard, Muller, Bertrand. Haas, Savant, Manuel, Clopton, Deshotels voting yes, Motion carried. Motion by Mr. Muller—That the Police Jury take a recess of ten minutes for the purpose of investigating the sanitary condition of the Court House, including the Grand Jury room. Lafleur—That the sum of one hundred and tweutv-tive dollars be appropriated out of the 7tb ward internal improvement funds of 1908, to dig a canal to drain the publi« road leading from Fusse Fusilierand re-Motiouato O. Guillory’s corner; the contract to be sold to lowest bidder by Messrs. Fnsso Fusilier, Aleeslo Vidrine and Mayo Vidrlne.Messrs. Stelly, B. L. Motion by Mr. Haas—That the report of committee appointed to examine iato the complaint, as to the drainage between lands of Mr. J.D. Bertrand and others, be received andSlaced on file, and committee discharged* lotion carried.Motion by Mr. Halphen—Whereas, the present Grand Jury has seen fit in its final report recently presented to the District Court to attackthe legality of the contract made by this body for the leasing of the parish convicts;Therefore be it resolved, that the Parish Attorney be and he is hereby requested to furnish this body a written opinion as to the legality vel now of said contract., Motion carried.Motion by Mr. Deshotels—That the Police Jury appoint a supervisor to superintend the construction of the Steel Bridge and dirt approaches across Bayou Carron at Washington. Motion carried.Motion by Mr. Haas—That Mr. LeRov McNichols be appointed supervisor of the construction of the Steel Bridge and approaches across Bayou Carron, at a salary of one and one-half per cent of the contract6rice, for the building of said bridge, lotion carried.Motion by Mr. Muller—That Mr. D. Dario be and he is hereby authorized to have a suitable room built, of galvanized iron, upon the Court House square, to be used as a store house for coal, etc. Motion carried. Motion by Mr. A. Dr.Cloption in the Chair.The committee on claims reported through Chairman Muller that they had examined the claims as above detailed and found same correct.On motion the report was accepted and committee discharged.Motion by Mr. Halphen—Be It resolved, That an appropriation of seven hundred and seventy-five dollars be made out of the election expense fund of 1908 for the payment of Commissioners and Clerks of election and the expenses of sending out and returning of ballot boxes and election sup-{lies for the primary election held on eb. 25,1908, and that a warrant for said amount be issued to the Parish Treasurer for payment of said ©lection claims on presentation oi same when approved by Mr. K. B. Dubuiason, Chairman of the parish election committee, and that a further appropriation of twenty-seven and 75-100 dollars ($27.75) be made out of same fund to pay addional expenses of the first primary election heid on Jan. 28, in excess of the amount of the original appropriation made for said election expenses at the last meeting of this body.Messrs. Dario, Stelly, B. L. Lafleur, Adraste Laflenr, Halphen, Richard, Muller, Dailey, Haas, Savant, Clopton, Deshotels, and Guillory, voting yes. Motion carried.Motion by Mr. Deshotels—That a committee of three, composed of Messrs. A. M. Fontenot, J. E. Ortego and Tom Deville, be appointed to estimate the probable cost of cleaning gully at Tom Deville’s, to drain public road, and report at next regular meeting. Motion carried Motion by Mr. Savant—That th© report of committee appointed to ascertain probable cost of rebuilding the BarbrecK bridge at the public lano leading to depot, be received and accented, and that aa appropriation of three hundred and fifty dollars be made out of the5th ward funds to build said bridge, and that the same committee be continued to advertise in the official journal, the sale cf said bridge to lowest bidder, and to supervise and receive work when completed.Messrs. Stelly, Vidrine, B. L. Lafleur, Adraste Lafleur, Halphen, Richard, Muller, Bertrand, Haas, Dailey, Savant, Manuel, Clopton, Deshotels, Guillory, voting yes.
