Basic Training Completed Ronnie Curtis, son of Mrs. Al dee Curtis, 606 EF. Aztec, has fin ished basic training at Lackland AFB, and is now stationed in Amarillo, Tex., starting his tech nical training. He is studying to be a jet bomber mechanic. Exhibits Paintings Mrs. Josephine Battese, 1611 Red Rock Drive, and her son Stanley, who is an arts and crafts teacher in the public junior high school at Shiprock, attended the first Scottsdale Annual Indian Painting Exhibition recently. About 200 paintings were shown in this first exhibit, including five submitted by Battese The Battese’s were houseguests of the Roy Jennings family of Phoenix while attending the Scotts dale exhibit. They attended the cocktail party and banquet for the opening of the exhibit, and saw demonstrations of pottery making by Maria Visits Cross Canyon Glen Smart of Glenwood Springs Corp., was the house guest of Mr and Mrs Mickey Comstead of Cross Canyon Trading Post recent ly. Letters Awarded Varsity letters were awarded to Ross Carpenter and Alfred Lane, managers, in a ceremony at Gan ado public high school last week Football letters were received by Andrew Russell, Victor Slivers, Julius Smith, Mike James, Maur ice Camper, Willie Bitah, Sammie Lee, Amos Begay, Larry Peterson, James Dalgai Jimmie James Tom Billie, Bill Mullins, Benjamin Begay, Freddie Tsosie and Lavon Salaby. Basketball letters were awarded to Freddie Tallman, Victor Sliv ers, Jimmie James, Vernon Mor gan, Andrew Russell, Paul Begay, Amos Begay, James Dalgar, Mike James and Julius Smith Youth Seriously Injured Danny Shirley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Shirley of the Kin lichee community is in serious condition at Sage Memorial hos pital from gun wounds received when he accidentally shot himself at his home March 1. Shirley is 19 years old Arrives in Korea Army PFC Francis A Roth meyer, whose wife, Judy, lives at 715 W. Princeton, Gallup, re cently arrived in Korea and is now assigned to the 44th Engin eer Battalion Rothmeyer, son of Mr and Mrs. Walter W.
