Just before Christinas he had a severe attack of influenza, from which he did not appear to thoroughly recover although he resumed his regular services, which only ceased with the commencement of his last illness. Dr. Lafferty of Calgary and Dr. Newburu of Lethbridge were also called, but owing to having critical cases of their own, were umiblo to attend. Though relatives and intimate friends could see during the l ist few days of his illness that he was gradually «*it king, yet none anticipated his sudden decease and it came consequently as a severe shock to them, while the community at large unacquainted as they woie with his critical condition, received the sad news with mingled expressions of sorrow and surprise. His aged widow and liis daughter, Mis. Ewatf, who alone, of all his large family, were enabled to bo with him during his trying illness, are stricken with grief though both bear their great loss with Christian fortitude. The other members of his family, two of whom live in Port Arthur, one in Pundaa* one in the United States and three iu Kingston, have been communicated with, but none of them could ar rivo in time for the funeral. Universal sympathy is felt here for the entire family in their heavy bereavement and expressions of condolence atid sorrow are being received from friends at a distance.
