ALFRED — Eighty friends and relatives attended a shower for Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Windland (the former Inez Pullins) Saturday night, March 1, at the home of Mr and Mrs. Hartset Windland of Dutch Ridge. The couple received gifts for the home which they will establish in Columbus. Refreshments included ice cream, cake, coffee and soft drinks, with favors of small cups of mints. Cigars were also distributed Among the guests were the former Blendena Windland and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Wind land and children, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Windland and chil dren. All are from Columbus. Approximately 24 women attend ed a party at the home of Mrs Made White, Friday, Feb. 29. A similar party will be held at the home of Mrs Ella Yast, March 25. Mrs. Emma Findling spent the weekend in Torch, with her broth er and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Person. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Bentz and daughter returned last week from Arizona and the southwestern United States where they spent the winter. Billy Follrod arrived home from Korea, Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Gaul and Mrs. Lucy Gaul attended the ‘World Day of Prayer’ services at Chester Methodist Church, Friday evening. Services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Barnhart. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Buckley of the Elmwood Rest Home have been victims of an influenza at tack. Mrs. Buckley was attended at Sheltering Arms Hospital for an other illness, Harold Kimes of Ath ens assisted at the rest home dur ing their illness Harold and Gerald Swartz took their pre-induction Army tests last Wednesday. The Rev. Mr. Barnhart’s recent Subject Was “Does It Pay To Be a Christian?” The Temple Star Quartet of Akron Baptist Temple will sing at the Alfred Methodist Church Sat urday, March 8, at 8 p.m., under sponsorship of the Methodist Youth Fellowship. The quartet will also be at the Chester Methodist Church Sunday at 2 p.m -Helen Woode A bald-headed man in England had a portrait of King George tat tooed on his head.
