I EDITOR’S NOTE- Coach Hai I old Knapke’s Indians are as good as the best in Mercer County ] This they proved last Friday in I the Finals of the County Tour-| ney which they lost in an over-1 time period to Rockford high school We didn’t see the game but found a very good description of it m the Celina Standard I which we are using below.The Rockford Tigers turned what seemed certain defeat into victory here last night in the finale of the 24th annual Mercer County Class B basketball tour-nement, as they overcame a 41 to 36 Fort Recovery lead to tie the count 42 to 42 and then dropped in the winning basket in an overtime victory.Never in Mercer county’s tournament history was there a more exciting and harder fought finals; than was witnessed by a packed fieldhouse last night. It was Rockford’s seventh win in Mercer County Tournament- history, and last night’s victory gave them both the tournament and league title.Runner-up trophies for both the tournament and the Mercer county league were presented to Fort Recovery by County Supt. C W. Specht tournament manager, who also presented the winner’s trophies for the league and tournament to Rockford. The grade school tournament trophy was presented to St. Henry.Recovery scored the opening basket to take a 2-0 lead but Rockford tied the count 2-2 only to have the Indian* take a 6-3 lead midway in the period. The Indians went on to hold an 8-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter.Rockford came back to take a 19-13 lead but Walls kept the Indians in the running and the Tigers held but a 22-21 margin as the half ended.The Indians came back strong in the third quarter and took a lead which they never surrendered until Rockford tied the score 42-42 in the final seconds of play In the second half it was the sharp shooting of Griesinger, Indian guard, who kept Fort Recovery out in front, as he scored consistently from the side of the floor for five field goals in the second- half.For Rockford it was Bollen-bacher and Jackson with 14 points each, who,lead the Tiger attack. Paul Schaadt, Rockford forward, tied the count at 42-42 when he dropped in a free throw with 27 seconds remaining to play and it was Palmer Jackson’s field goal in the overtime that gave the Tigers their margin of victoryRockford connected with 12 free throws in 20 attempts while Fort Recovery made 6 in 16 attempts.
