EVIDENCE OF TWO GIRLS SENDS TO PRISON, 10 YEARS TO LIFE MARION, IL, March §. (INS.))— Three former members of Charlie Birger’s gang were today given in determinate sentences of from 10 years to life on charges of rob bery, the convictions resulting from the testimony of two girls. The convicted men are Ray Rowe, 21, Danny Brown, 23, and Harry Thomason, 19. The girl witnesses are Jackie Williams and Pearl Phelps both of whom live near Herrin, 20 miles from here. Among the witnesses for the de fense was Mrs. Charles Birger, whose husband is held in the county jail at Benton in connec tion with the murder of Mayor Joe Adams of West City, last fall. The three young men were charged with binding and gagging Joe Murray, an aged resident of Waver, near Herrin, and robbing him of money, a guitar, a pistol and a phonograph. The two girls testified the money was divided in their house shortly after the rob bery took place. Mrs. Birger testified that Thom ason spent the night at the Birger home in Harrisburg the night of the robbery. The two state wit nesses who had been held in Wil liamson county jail since the ar rest, testified that the men had threatened to kill them if they testified against them.
