Leverence had to attain at least a “B” average to be listed.Another Markham resident, Jeff Straub, made the dean’s list at Lewis university, Lock-port, for the third time in his college career Straub, a 1975 graduate of Hillcrest high school, is now a sophomore at the school and aside from his academic pursuits, finds time to play on the school’s tennis team. Straub is from 16435 St. Louis, in Markham.Theresa L. Giertych, 16834 Woodlawn East, South Holland, has been named to the dean’s list at Butler university for the first semester of the 1976-77 school year Butler is located in Indianapolis.A 1973 graduate of Thorn-wood high school recently was named to the honor roll of Blackburn college, Carlinville, 111. Shalley Wakeman, daughter of Mr and Mrs. Jack Wakeman, Thornton, is a bilingual eudcation major at Blackburn.Two area men were named to the dean’s list of Villanova university, in Villanova. Pa. Robert Francis Prevost and Thomas Barry Breiner were named to the list for their scholastic achievement Prevost is a Dolton resident who lives at 212 East 141st place and Breiner lives at 32 Arapaho drive, Thornton Five South Holland residents were named to the dean's list at Hope college.Holland, Mich. Blythe Denham, a junior; Ellen J. Blauw, a sophomore; K. Gs-terman, a freshman; David P Blauw and Russell Paarlberg, both seniors, were among the students named.Meanwhile, two Harvey students have been named to theAlfrieda Bumsdean’s list of Wabash college, Crawfordsville, Ind Those named were senior David Brian Wilde, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond A. Wilde, 408 Calumet boulevard, and Timothy Mark Wilson, a junior and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank R. Wilson, 360 Calumet boulevard.Debbie Sue Black of 936 East 169th court, South Holland, has again been named to the deat. s list of Fort Lewis college. Durango, Colo. Ms. Black is a junior at the school, majoring in art. Last year, she won first place in the school art show with one piece of art she placed on exhibit. She is the daughter of Mrs. Jerry BlackAnother Markham student, Alfrieda Ann Bums, has been named to the dean’s list at Knox college, Galesburg Ms Burns, daughter of Mrs. Lillie Burns of 1904 West 163rd street, is a member of the Phi Beta Phi sorority at the schoolSeveral local students also have been named to the Eastern Illinois university honor roll. Students from South Holland, Markham, Phoenix and Dolton all made the list Dolton students on the honor roll include Linda M. Baranowski, Diane Dmitrovich, Maggie Lane and Matthew F. Piescin-skiThree Markham residents also made the list and they are: Dawn Lea Brown, Leonard Dawson and Deanna-Sue Ewald Leonard Jones of Phoenix also made the honor roll.Terri Ann David and James G. Heerema also were listed by Eastern.At Drake university, Des Moines, Iowa, three area students were listed on the school’s honor roll.Gregory Lee Surufka of 15923 Emerald avenue, Harvey was named to the honor roll, along with Cheryl Lynne Jenkins, who lives at 16259 South Wood street, Markham, and Gerald Bruce Yost of 765 East 154th street, South HollandHearings to Discuss Affirmative ActionA public hearing is scheduled March 9 to discuss methods for promoting the participation of small and minority-owned businesses in construction contracts with the Metropolitan Sanitary district.The hearing will be held in the board room at the district’s main office building, 100 East Erie street, Chicago, at 10 a m The meeting is sponsored by the district’s subcommittee on minority participation, Nellie Jones, chairman.On December 2, 1976, the board of commissioners adopted a resolution expressing the board’s desire to implement anaffirmative action program, in conformance with federal statutes. The program will encourage small and minority businesses to participate as subcontractors in the district’s capital improvement program Mailings and public announcements have been made to insure maximum public participation in the hearing, according to Ms. Jones.
