PAGE 4*8THE GATESVILLE MESSENGER, THURSDAY, MARCH 3, 1977Health, Nutrition Program Topics for PAFLE SessionThe final PAFLE meeting in a series of four sponsored by the GatesviHe Parent Teacher Association will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in the library of GatesviHe High School.The topic and speakers will be the same as were announced for the Nov. 29 meeting, which was postponed until this month.•‘Parenting; The Importance of Health and Nutrition*1 is the topic. Presenting the nutrition phase of the program will be Mrs. Janda Coward, director of dietary services at Coryell Memorial Hospital, and Mrs. Laura White, teacher of home economics related occupations in the local high school. Mrs. White will show two Filmstrips, “Feeding Your Young Child-ren, which deals with nutrition for the preschool years, and “Breakfast and the BrightLife,*' dealing with nutrition education for the teenager.Dr. Deborah Spiva of Dallas, who was associated with Lowrey Clinic and Coryell Memorial Hospital for one year and is the sister of PAFLE chairman Mrs. DeDe Powell, will discuss health hazards which families face. Dr. Spiva is presently serving a fellowship in immunology in the department of microbiology at Southwestern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Dallas and is on the faculty at the Medical School. She was recently board certified in internal medicine.Dr. Spiva graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA degree in zoology, and graduated from the University of Texas Medical School at SanAntonio. She served an elective in Connecticut in hematology research, and served her internship and residency at the University of Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. N. Y. One of her papers has been published in the American Journal of Medicine. Her professional affiliations are American Medical Association, associate member American College of Physicians.
