Here’s a chance ‘for some Corona citizen to help light the way for his city. The chamber of commerce is offering three cash prizes, of $5.00, $3.00 and $2.00 for first, second and third best designs, respectively, of ornamental light posts submitted on or before March 31. Any citizen of Corona is eligible to give his talent a work-out. The designs may be either in the form of drawings or models and should be left with Secretary H .F. Clark at the chamber of commerce headquarters, Sixth — street. Three judges to be,named later will decide on the draVngs or models submit ted. Along with this announcement comes the speculation of just what streets and how much of them are to be lighted. There is much talk at present, stated Secretary Clarke to day, of having the entire portion of Sixth and Main sreets that le with in the Circle Boulevard, lighted with these ornamental posts. It was fur ther added that installing ornament al posts around the Circle Boulevard was more than a mere suggestion right now. The idea has been broach ed from time to time by public spirit ed citizens and if carried out would be an attractive feature,the lo cation of the city on thé gradual slope being such that it is thought the circle lights would show up dis tinctly for many miles. “The idea of having’ight post designs submitted on a cash prize basis,’ says Secretary Clark,” is to stimulate interest in the proposition. We expect much from the high school classes in manual training ‘end maghanical drawing.”
