Logansport: The-, fare: well, was held on tiie: eighty-fourth; birthday anniversary of Elihu S. Rice,, the oldest member of the'congregation, as: a testimonial to the high es-y teem,, in -.which he is ,. heLd by the 'church. body. Mr. Rice detailed tbe • early history of the cbiiceh,.. which ' J proved interesting and. entertaimi*.I to the present congregation. An interesting reminiscence^ was the .story 'oFliow the old'hell in the church-tow-eer was secured. Money for it was. raised in IS75 by running .’an excur-'s;Cu tp Chicago. The vote in favor of retain-.itig it was unanimous. iThe G. A. R; quartette sang a Song composed. by Mr, Rice, and. then the,;congregation and tbe Sunday ■ school-paid tribute ,to. Mr. Rice by singing,;-1 Love to Slag too Old Songs j' which was also composed by him. Following ~ this three little.gdrls..each bearing a b;g bouquet, marched up the'aisle and presented tbe tribute- _to' Mr:; Rice. H. L. Stetson of.' Kalamazoo. ■Mich., former pastor of the church, ; told some interesting facts about the church's history.; W. T:‘ Wilson paid a glowing tribute'to the women who in’pioneer days, assisted materially in founding and maintaining- the’ church. Judge Quincy A. Myers 'related 'interesting stories about Rev. Silas’Tucker. who was pastor'of tbe church during the war. B.e”7old of how the old bell was rung during the battle.of Ap-pomatox. ’ Mayor D. D. Ficltle spoke briefly, paying tribute'to Mr. Rice and the work which the church ha's. done, and the good it can yet .accomplish. Besides the G. A.
