Powers, after an illness of eleven days from a severe attack of Lit*grippe and chills, died at his home in Scott Township, Fayette county, Iowa, Thursday, Feb. 25th, 1S92.Mr. Powers was born Nov. 9, 1S07, in Pennington Co., Vermont where he lived until about the age of twenty years when he removed to Penn, and in 1833 was married to Melissa Ann Farr who survives him. From Penn, he removed to Ohio where he live until 1S37 when he went to lJoone Co., Ill, being one of the early settlers in this county While here, he lost a son, his second child who was the first white person buried in the county. In the year 1S57 he removed to Scott Twp. Fayette Co., Iowa, where he made it his home the remainder of his years. He had a family of eleven children, nine of whom are still living. He has forty-five graml-children and fifteen great-grand-child-ren, Mr, Powers has served as an active pioneer in three different states and has encountered and withstood all the privations of such life, and was never known to say NO when called upon to aid his fellowman, and was always ready to aid in any goou cyusc no matter to how great nr. inconvenience to himself. At his home the latch* string was ever out and a hearty welcome was given to all.
