Cecil Edwards, president of the Pleasant Valley school board, was presented a bound ary change petition seeking uni fication of the north part of the Pleasant Valley school district with the Jasper R-5 district fol lowing a talk Monday night by Arthur Summers, director of school district reorganization for the State Board of Education. However, the boundary change petition was presented after the annexation petition by R-6 pa tions to annex with Carthage and the annexation petition must be disposed of first. The petition, bearing 16 signa tures, requested a vote on the proposed boundary change April 6. Edwards said action would be taken at the next school board meeting, which if Thurs day Summers told Pleasant Valley voters that if they vote to annex to Carthage April 6 Pleasant Valley will then become part of the nonreorganized Carthage district, losing its identity as a reorganized district, and subject to division by the Jasper county Board of Education as it sees fit. The Pleasant Valley-Carter ville reorganization plan is now pending in Jefferson City. If Pleasant Valley votes to annex to Carthage, the Carterville- Pleasant Valley plan is void, according to Delmar Cobble, assistant commissioner and di rector of school law, State Board of Education. Then the only way Carterville can have a re organization with the Pleasant Valley district is for the county board to submit a new plan to the state board of education. The Pleasant Valley - Carter- Ville reorganization plan previ ously rejected by the state board, was resubmitted by the Jasper county board. Summers spoke at a meeting of the Pleasant Valley Commu nity club and later met with members of the Pleasant Valley school board, all of whom at tended the meeting. bound vehicle skidded out of control on an icy bridge, struck the bridge on the right side, con tinued across the median, across the east lane, through a guard rail and over a 30-foot embank ment. The driver was taken to Burge Protestant hospital, Springfield. County Jail J.D. Franklin Myers, 30, and Kenneth Joe Stephens, 28, both of Webb City, were booked at the county jail this morning on charges of petit larceny. The charges were filed in connection with the alleged theft of some batteries belonging to Bill Keck, Carterville. Herman Dale Toomey, 46, As bury, was booked this morning on a charge of driving while intoxicated. James Allen Foster, 23, Bel ton, was booked Monday night on a forgery charge, after bond posted earlier was ordered for feited, | | ~ ) ] 0 uo A number of accidents, some possibly caused by the icy streets, were reported to police during the last 24 hours. Gertrude M. Hilton, 48, 416 South Francis, said her car skidded on the wet pavement off the Second street parking lot and her car collided with the parked vehicle of Richard M. Rodgers, Jr., 812 East Chestnut. The cars of James E. Hill, 22, 519 West Centennial and Janice Kay Tryon, 19, route 2, collided at the intersection of Central and McGregor, at 8:06 p.m. Monday, Miss Tryon suf fered a bump on her head, ac cording to police, who said a passenger in her car, Linda Le Masters, 19, 1103 River, also suffered minor injuries. Neither was hospitalized. Again the mis hap was attributed to slippery pavement. Officers said the car occupied by the young women was turning when the impact occurred. Another mishap occurred at Francis and Central at 7:50 a.m. Monday. Kenneth W. Dininger, 36, 1418 Harrington and Marilyn F. Robertson, 30, 915 Limestone, were the drivers involved. There were no injuries and only minor property damage was in dicated. Other police activity included a report by Mike Pace, 1012 South Maple, who said some clothing placed by his wife was apparently stolen sometime Monday from a dryer at the coin-operated laundry at 429 South Garrison.
