John W. Gwynn was bom near Cynthiana, Harrison county, Kentucky, February 1, 1824, and died at the family home in Henry county, February 18,1911, aged 87 years, 17 days.At the age of 7 years he emigrated i with his parents to Wabash county. \ After residing there less than a year they removed to the old Gwynn home-j stead 4 mi»es north of Cambridge City. His entire life was spent in and about Cambridge City.When a youog man he taught school in a slab bench school bouse near the brick church on the farm now owned by Gabriei Hardman. Of 64 pupils who attended his school but one, D. W. Mason, of Cambridge City, survives him.October 22, 1854, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Kiplinger. This union was blessed with one son and five (laughters. The mother and three daughters preceded him to the other world. He leaves one brother, Henry Gwynn, one son. two daughters, five grandchildren and many other relatives and friends to mourn their Iobs.By his death the community looses one of its oldest and most respected citizens. He was an affectionate husband, loving father and good neighbor. He was honest, industrious and kind-hearted, always ready to minister to the wants of the needy and lend a helping hand whenever he could.He will long be remembered by his many frieuds for his good traits of character and his strong disposition to always look on the bright and cheerful side of life.
