Northbound Hustler No. 9 was wreck ed at Carl, about 4 miles north of Corsicana yesterday evening, killing the engineer and breaking the fire man’s leg just above the ankle. All coaches save the pullman went in the ditch though the passengers were un hurt save a bad shaking up. A defect in the engine caused the wreck. There were several passengers aboard the train from Groesbeck among them being Mrs. Clint Herod and Mrs. Pearl Gresham, both of whom were en route to Dallas, and Whit Popejoy who was bound for Fort Worth. J.D. Faulkner had a telephone mes sage from Mrs. Herod this morning who had reached Dallas and informed him that the car in which they were riding turned completely over; that she was slightly hurt in the shoulder. Mr. Popejoy’s hand was badly bruised, while Mrs Gresham was uninjured. It was marvelous how they escaped. We have added an optical depart ment to our business and have a gradu ate optician in charge.
