The store was purchased from Rufus Mason and sons.In 1923 Mr Paul Clark became a partner in the store with his father. Paul Clark passed away in 1946 and Mrs (Holly) PaulClark became a partner. She had been employed at the store for several years before this.Jim Clark, the son of Holly and Paul Clark bought into the store in 1951 and continues there to this day along with his wife, Ardith, who workd part time there. At one time Clark’s Store was not self-service as it is now.People would bring their list of groceries in and leave and return to pick up their ‘bagged’ groceries after they had gone to the movie or whatever they planned for the evening. The Clarks have always opened the store from 7:30 am until 6:00 pm in the evening. Some evening they were open until the early hours of the mornings, 1 or 2 am, especially on Saturday nights. As Jim was a child, he would beput in a wagon and go to sleep under the counter back then.Over the years, the store has dealt in a variety of items from large appliances to penny candy. Ball Brand overshoes were one of the biggest sellers at one time, however, most of the dry goods have disappeared from theshelves. At one time the store stocked scoop shovels, pitch forks, neck yokes, horse collars, curry combs and stove pipe as a few examples. At that time one neck yoke had the price of $1.49In 1973 Jim’s mother, Mrs Holly Clark passed away leaving Jim the sole owner of the store. There have been various helpers employed at Clarks Store since then, Mrs Audrey Hayes being one of the longest ther Several high school boys helped to stock shelves after school.La verna Ridnous has been employed at Clarks Store for approximately 6 years and Cleta Jones has been there for about 4 years. In the summer of 1976 the front of the store was remodeled, lowering some bricks but the store remains much the same as it did 58 years ago.The Clarks have 3 children, Kevin, age 18, who is in the Navy, Kennth, 22, who is married and lives in Clarinda and Tonya age 15, of the home.Support your local store as we are very fortunate to have one.CLARKS STORE DURING A CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION... ’.pictured from left Mrs Holly Clarm Ardith Clark and Jim Clark.Support Easter SealsMr and Mrs Jim Clarklt;s*
