S. theater owners.In their current issue Look sa- 1 lutes Chakeres as “a master showman with an unswerving belief in the value and permanence of motion pictures. But he has never forgotten that, as an exhibitor, he has a responsibility to his city and his country to make all his theaters the headquarters for many I kinds of charitable fund drives to help the sick and friendless—as well as to make them attractive and wholesome places for community entertainment.”• • •CHAKERES, WHO CAME tothis country 51 years ago from Greece, acquired his first theater, the Princess, in Springfield, in 1908. He ran the machines, cleaned the theater, and his wnfe Helen, was cashier, selling tickets at five cents each.The Chakeres circuit now' consists of 49 theaters. In Fairborn the Fairborn and the Midway theaters are links in the chain. The Fair-: born, w'hich opened in January, j 1948, was the forty-ninth in the circuit.
