HIHIHMIIIIIIIII .............................................................................................Ruin* of Pygmy Town of Ancient EraHave Been Found Near Durango, MexicoRelics of a pygmy race that flourished Id remote times have been foundifc the Mezqultal region, Durango state, a short distance from Durango City, Mexico, by Prof. Bverardo Gamiz, the archeologist, says the San Francisco Chronicle. The ruins, which are In a mountainous region difficult to explore, consist of well constructed huts each about a yard high. It is be^ lleved that the dwarfs were driven Into the mountains by enemy Indians and that they Inhabited the area for many years. The zone is about thirty kilometers square.Several mummies of these Lilliputians were found In cunningly woven baskets In caves near the huts. None of these remains measure more than 4ft feet They are clothed in a finefabric woven from the maguey plant. These little people used small bows and arrows. There is evidence that they were versed in geometry and dancing and were idol worshipers. The construction of the huts demonstrates that the builders were skilled in the use of lead and other mate-Gamiz holds that these ancient Mezquital folk lived in family groups scattered over central Mexico and that the persecution of full-sized natives forced them to seek refuge in the Durango mountains, where they formed a confederacy with its own laws and religion. He is certain that the relics and mummies are not those of the children of Indians, but are of a dwarf race that has become extinct
