8JtManchester Circuit, St. Louis Confer ence.—I noticed, sometime since, an article I in the Advocate, headed ‘‘Credit to whom Credit is Due,” which I intended to have I noticed before now, but a press of business has prevented.I The statements of the writer are correct | as to facts, and I only wish to assign a rea j son for the reports appearing as tnoy do.In regard to my claims and receipts, the | case stands thus: I went to the circuit, as a 1 supply, at the second quarterly meeting; and, as a young man had been appointed to the work, and his claim already assessed at 0150, I took his place, in claims as well as work; so that one hundred and fifty dollars j was allowed to me as my legal claim; and Oi | that legal claim I legally received 0115, ana I legally reported it. But tho good brethren, j knowing that that amount was insufficient | for my support, made up, outside ci legal as-j Bessraents and collections, enough to pay my wife’s board (060), and presented me with some nice presents. There is a reason why these amounts were not regularly assessed, collected, and paid, as quarterage, table expenses, etc., but it need not be here mentioned—suffice to say that it was not the fault of any member of the Manchester Quarterly Conference, or of myself. The reason why Bro. Browning’s receipts were not reported in the minutes is because, when I started to Conference, he had not made out his report, and depended on the mails to convey it to me at Conference, but I did not receive it until the Conference stewards had made up their report; hence it was published as it is.This explanation I consider duo alike to myself, Bro. Browning, and the brethren ot the Manchester Circuit, than whom a more noble and Christian-like set of men breathe not the air.Yours, c., Wh. H. Mobley.oTT-----t ____________rca8n
