By John Coward A standing-room-only crowd ushered 36 graduates into the Arborg-Bifrost Community Hall June 24, making it one of the most important events on the town’s calendar. The ceremonies were a mixture of joy and sometimes carsus Evergreen trustee and relied Arborg teacher Kris Gudmundson delivered his words of wisdom to the grads. On the more serious side, Gudmundson referred to Shakespeare for inspiration. “Be true to yourself,” he advised. On the lighter side, Gudmundson borrowed a line from from a Garth Brooks line to get his message across othe grads. “Don’t sit upon the shoreline but dare to dance the tides,” he said. Lorne Boundy received five awards during the cere monies, including the Governor General’s Medal. Boundy, who acted as student Council president this past year, plans to attend the University of Manitoba. Evergreen School: Division awards went to Justine Bodnar, Lorne Boundy and Gage Cherepak, for their aca demic achievements. Ashley Janower,and Patrick Finnsson each made three trips to the podium, including Finnsson’s walk to receive the Arborg Chamber of Commerce Award, Glenn Syme, representing Arborg’s RCMP detachment, made a special presentation to Arborg Collegiate principal Scott Powers for his contin ued involvement in communi ty affairs and his support of drug awareness programs in the school. The grads nominated Dwight Thompson to receive the Dale Koblin Award for congeniality. Arbory Collegiate also bid farewell to its principal of four years. Powers, in a some times emotional speech to the graduates, students who have been under his wing since they entered high school, encouraged the graduates to “go out and move the world”. “We started together and now we leave together,” said Powers, who will teach histo ry at Gimli High School next year. Sally Fridfinnson and Lorne Boundy deliver the vaterietory Address during 2006 cere monies held at the Arborg Bifrost Community Hall.
