Al Engbers bought hatchery k which opened doors in 1929 *Chickens, chickens and more chickens, that's what you find at the Le Mars Hatchery and Feed Co.The year 1929 was the opening date of this operation and Mr. C. VanZyl Jr. wasthe first owner and manager.He maintained this enterprise until 1939. when he sold out to the present o\\ ner. Mr. Albert Engbers.Mr. Engbers is originally from Pella. Before coming to Le Mars he resided in Orange City where he was employed at the hatchery.The plant is located at 42 3 Second Ave.C W digsNW which was also the site of the firstbuilding in 1929. jThree buildings make up the Le Mars QHatchery and Feed, and they cover an area of approximately 7,200 square feet. j(They contain not only the chicks and sstarter pullets that are sold from there, but also grinding equipment for making all their own poultry feed for their use and also to be sold to retail customers.Another one of the buddings contains the incubators and hatchers used in starting out their baby chicks If you need any chickens, the Le Mars Hatchery is the place to go or if you just like to look at them, the hatchery is still the place to go.
