Moore Lumber servesThe Moore Lumber Co. has been an established firm in Le Mars since the year 1890.It was at this time that Mr. Moore opened up his lumber yard. Located at the present site of today, 215 First St. NE, Moore’s Lumber carried a complete line of building materials, lumber and coal.In 1910, Mr. Moore added a cement block plant to his firm. The plant ran until 1967, when it was completely lost in a fire.It was then decided by the company heads to discontinue the cement business.Frank A. Post came to work in the Moore Lumber yard in 1892.He was a loyal and trusted employee whom Mr. Moore came to depend upon. Then, in 1918, M. A. Moore died and for five years the lumber yard continued under the Moore family management. However, in 1923, plans were drawn up by Fred A. Post and Fred Moore to buy out the family interests.Together, the two “Mr. Freds” operatedthe lumber yard until the early 1940’s when Fred Moore died and his son John took over his father’s share. Also, during this time, young Stan Post came to work at the firm. And likewise, when his father died, Stan took over that share of the company.Until 1958, Stan and John jointly owned and operated the lumber company. But at this point. Stan Post purchased the Moore family interest and once again the firm was under a sole ownership. When the company was destroyed by fire in 1967, it was all restored except for the cement block plant. There was also one important addition — that of a reupholstery plant. The firm still carried a complete line of building supplies, lumber and coal.Paint has also always been one of theproducts and glass was added in 1967.Mowers were introduced at Moore’s in 1953 and they now have snowplows.Mr. Post handles mainly retail customers rather than large contractor businesses. He prides himself in the fact that the Moore Lumber Co. gives to the customer quality products as well as dependable and honest service.
