Pomeroy Rural Fire Association Buys New TruckThe recently organized Pomeroy. Rural Fire Association has purchased a new fire truck which was delivered here on Monday of last week, The new equipment is mounted- on a G-M'C chassis and was outfitted by the Luverne Fire Apparatus Co. of Luverne, Minn. It is a Cliass A rated truck and carries all the latest equipment. Included are a two-stiaige pump for large fire fighting and an auxiliary pump for use against grass fires and- small blazes. The truck represents an investment of about $-lil,OO0, not including hose and ladders. The hose and ladders were taken from the No. 2 city fire truck which has been retired,Within the last two years, farmers — ■lt;£■In Colfax, BelMlle and Sherman Townships voted a tax assessment for fire protection purposes. The new truck at Pomeroy will offer fire protection, to farmers in. those three townships who are on the Pomeroy telephone exchange. This includes about 44 sections of land.The Pomeroy Rural Fire Assn. was organized and boundary lines set up in a number erf meetings with trustees of these three -townships. Don Roese is the secretary-treasurer of the association.In action taken some years ago, tax funds from Butler Township go to support the equipment located at JCnoke, and farmers in this township gat their protection from there. lt;An invitation has been extended- tothe trustees of Butler Township to join the local association, at least for those farmers who hawe Pomeroy phone numbers-, but so far no action has been taken. As it now stands, the Pomeroy truck will answer calls to Butler Township farms but the cost of answering the call will be assessed against the township, Fanners in Colfax, Bellville and- Sherman who are included in the new association will, -however, have priority.The new truck will be manned by members of the Pomeroy Volunteer Fi-re Department.
