To Dismantle Old Mathies-sen Home in La SatieOne of the largest dwellings in La Salle county and a landmark in La Salle, will probably be dismantled within a short while.The structure is the three-story stone homestead of the Matthiessen family at Ninth and La Harpe streets. The building was constructed about a half century ago by the late F. W. Matthiessen. The dwelling and grounds covers about two city blocks. JFor some years the house has not been occupied by the Matthiessen heirs, all of whom reside in other cities. However, two of the family servants and a caretaker have lived at the homestead.At the time it was constructed the I*Matthiessen home was declared one of the most palatial mansions of Central Illinois and the cost of construction mounted to thousands of dollars.It is understood that the Matthiessen heirs recently decided that from an economic viewpoint it would be advisable to dismantle the dwelling. No use for the building could be found and the taxes and upkeep amount to considerable.11]:
