Died, after several weeks illness, June 25, 1887, at bis residence, near Roark, Rockingham Co., Virginia, Christian Foltz; aged 89 years, 8 months, and 16 days. lie was born and reared in Page Co., Va.On the 22nd day of September, 1837, he entered into the estate of matrimony with Miss Temperance Cowan, of Rockingham Co., Va. This union was blessed with eleven children, of whom four preceded him to the grave, and three sons and four daughters survive him.He was a relative of old Rev. Mr. Foltz, one of the pioneer Lutheran ministers in the Valley of Virginia, and who preached occasionally in the Ev. Luth. Church, in Madison Co., Va., known as the Old Dutch Church, -—one of the oldest in the State.In his infancy he was dedicated to God, and at a more mature age, he entered into full communion with the Church, in which he proved faithfnl, devoted, and worthy to the end of his days. The last regular Communion service he attended was in Oct., 1886.He was reliable, correct, and upright in his course of conduct,— a kind husband and father, a good neighbor, and a useful citizen.His funeral was very largely attended, Rev. S. Henkel, D. D., officiating. Thus another ripe shock has been gathered home to his fathers, to enjoy the rest prepared for the faithful.
