News of This and Neighboring Counties Specially Reported. LOCAL CHRONICLES. The News ‘That Is Read at the Fire side—Chicken Thieves at Work— Strange Accident. ATLANTIC, J. H. Blair was visited by burglars last night. A watch and some money was taken, H. J. Johnson and family heard Dr. Wheeler’s baccalaureate sermon, Mead ville, last Sunday, and report that it was a grand in the fullest sense of that term, arrest has begun in this section. Occasional, NEW VERNON, Willie McCutcheon, of Grove City, is visiting his grandparents here at present. Fred Endesby, formerly of this place, but now of Fraklin, is visiting his uncle, Fr. Benner, on his way home from the World’s Fair. Children’s Day will be observed next Sabbath in the M. E. church. Wylie Mouck is quite sick with diph theria at present. Rev. Warnshius has refused to accept the call tendered thom from Ellwood city and will continue to remain with us. Mrs. W. P. Elder is visiting friends at New Castle, Nyx. SCWAKLEEVILLE, Kearney McDowell and sister, Halle, of Grove City, were the guests of Mrs. W. McDowell over Sabbath, Miss Emma Conse, who has been at tending Thiel College, is home for a vacation. Harve Custard, who has been in Hartstown the past few months, is visit ing friends here. Miss Hettieé Dunn and niece, Bessie, are the guests of Miss Elsie Limber and other friends, R W. Philips, who has been acting a stenographer for J. Lewis Childs, of New York State, has returned. The funeral of Moses Logan, who died today morning, June 22nd, was held in the Baptist church, the services being ‘conducted by Rev. Swigart. A more extended notice appears elsewhere. HADLEY, Mrs. Robert’ Hadley died on Friday and was buried on Sunday. The funeral services were held at her home, her pas tor, Rev. Mr. Moore, officiating. She leaves a husband, two sons and two daughters to mourn their loss. Iva Smith, of Jefferson, Ohio, is the guest of Nettie Rood, “Mrs Jennie Woods, of Sharpsville, is visiting Mrs. Metzler, this week, Edith Vaughn is attending school at Fredonia. Miss Ida Scrivens met with a peculiar accident. She was running after some cattle that had broken into the garden and she came in contact with a wire clothes tine, which struck her on the n neck. She was in a dangerous condi tion for several days, but is better at present writing. The ladies‘ missionary society will be held at John Pattison's, next Thursday, at 2p.m. ? Communion services will be held at the Presbyterian church, next Sabbath, ee ORANGEVILLE, “Decoration Day exercises came on a fine day. Music and literary exercises were good. Considerable attention was given to practice and decoration. Some very pretty class banners were carried in the opening march. Mrs. Harriet Fell is the guest of her brother, Archie McFarland. . Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Fell, Miss Clara Foulk and Miss Emma McFarland will leave Saturday, for Chicago. Plans are maturing for a lawn fete to be given by the ladies of the ME, church, in raspberry season. Sweet cream, sweet berries, sweet sugar, sweet nnte! Yong man, make a note of this, and mention it to some young lady. (The date is not fixed.) Outer Medal contest Saturday evening J uly 8th. Mrs. AL. Jones is able to be out again. Mrs. Arthur Hall, of Cleveland, and Mrs. George Byerly, of Sharpsville, spent Sunday with Mrs. Antanda Tal], Mr. and Mrs. E. Powers have returned from Chicago. Mrs. Ed, Hyde and daughter Margie, spent last week in Warren, PXMATUNING. Jacob Landfried and wife, of Green ville, visited his parents last Saturday. The Alliance people gave a supper at George Jaxtheimer's last Mriday evening. Born: To Mr.and Mrs. George Heile, a daughter, Friday, June 23. Daniel Donaldson, who went west sev eral years ago, has returned and is visit ing relatives and friends here. County Superintendent Eckles, of Free donia, called on friends here last Tues day evening. Miss Ella Wise, of Neshannock, is vis iting her sister, Mrs. S. McLaughlin, Mr.,and Mrs. William Iich, of Dona tion, spent Sabbath with friends there. Rev. P. F. DeVaux is visiting his brother, M. V. DeVaux, of Shenango. The West Salem Sunday school con vention at Maysville passed off pleas antly and was very good. There were some very spirited discussions, and very good recitations, especially that of Mas ter Ralph Hassenplug, entitled, The Bishop is Coming to Town. A strange man had his foot badly crushed at Transfer, last Monday. Danny Reichard who has has been very sick with typhoid fever,at Edge wood park, was brought home last Wey- pesday somewhat better but very weak-
