Leroy Welch was shot and probabJy fatally wounded Monday night at Marshalltown by W. C. Ralls. The affair was the culmination of a long time feud between the two men over a prostitute, known as Em Stewart. Welch has a wifeand one child, but had almost abandoned them and was supporting the Stewart woman. A recent article in the Chicago Sunday Sun exposed his liaison. Welch charged Ralls with writing the article and swore revenge, and meeting the latter on the street he struck him in the face, whereupon Ralls drew' a revolver and fired twice, th i second shot entering Welch’s left breast. Ralls surrendered and Welch was carried to the apartment of his paramour and it is thought he cannot live. Ralls is a single man and of one of the best families in the county.Leroy Welch Fatally Wounded by Con”Kails.Marshalltowx, Iowa, June 29.— Leroy Welch lies dying from the effects of a shot from a revolver in the hands of i;Con” Ralls, a professional gambler. Trouble had existed for a long time between the two men over Emma Stewart, a dissolute woman. Welch has neglected his wife . and child for her sake and Ralls recently exposed him in a i article published in a Chicago sensational paper. For this Welch swore to be avenged, and,meet-ing Ralls on the street last night, struck him a savage blow in the face. Welch was accompanied by a friendnamed William Hedson. Ralls immediately pulled a revolver and fired twice, the shot taking effect in Welch’s left breast. Ralls gave himself up and Welch was taken to his paramour’s rooms at his own request. He has had several hemorrhages and cannot live.
