AMVETS Post 244 Is Newesl of Vet Organizations HereThe Thomas M. Mitchell Post No. 244 of the AMVETS was reactivated in Harrisburg ir 1965 after it became inactive s year or so after being chartered in 1960.The post headquarters presently are located at the inter-section of East Church and U. S. Highway 45 and a membership drive is underway to organize an Auxiliary unit.The AMVETS are active in the affairs of American veterans of World War II and of the Korean conflict and the local post plans to participate in a National AMVET drug plan in whtch members are eligible to purchase prescription drugs, vitamins and other drug needs at a savings from a Federal Pre-; scription Service.Officers of the Thomas M. Mitchell Post are:Charles Snyder, Commander; Grover Fulbright, vice commander; Clifford Smith, vice commander; Ottis Gibbons, vice commander; Robert Pertain, adjutant; John Thomas, public relations officer; James Gwaltney, finance officer; James “Bromo” Johns, membership director: Harold Culley, legislative diree tor. Trustees are James Gwalfc ney, Bob Partain, Clifford Smith, Grover Fulbright and Charles Snyder. The post of service officer is open at present time.This year the post participated with the American Legion and Auxiliary and VFW and Auxiliary in the sponsorship of the annual Memorial Day program.
