Ail were bountifully fed, the pieparalionu both before and during the meal being ample and perfect, Ail the pupils were at the tables, and a happier lot of young children it would bo hard 10 hud anywhere* The management ot the .barbecue was chiefly entrusted to Messrs Wharton and Carroll, *ho earned the .hanky of all present for the manner in whiah they ^conducted their by no means unimportant part of the day's proceedings.the iflwnirrioN itself deserves a word or two, at least Under the new management every part of It Is conducted in the most satisfactory manner. The progress of the pupils Is remarkable They are contented and happy. They are speedily trails* lormed from dependent, Isolated a a f rto nates into useful and productive tuambers ot society. They ate taught not only reading, ’citing and *r thmetie, hot jmiub industrial pursuit, by which they can fte bOys at least) earn their own living; and whilb they are learning all this the institute Is a home to them. The trustees and Mr. Connor are pulling admirable together, and the result is very satisfactory, indeed. It Is really wonderful With an appropriation of only 812,000 the present manage-meat are in fact doing more for about eighty pupils than the old management did for about twenty-five pupils, having an annual appropriation ol f lb,QO0 *
