Arrivalofthe New York Hose Carriage for the Independent Fire Company, of Co-i.cmbia.—The steamship Manhattan, which arrived yesterday afternoon, brought the handsome new_cairiage, built by the New Totkimen’idiinlc+uVolunteer Firemen’s Association for presentation to Independent Hose Company, No. 1, nl Columbia, S. C. It will he remembered that the first carriage prepared by the Association for their Sonth Carolina friends was lost at sen on the 5th of March last, when the ill-fated Andalusia was burnt on the voyage to Charleston, and the present apparatus is intended to take the place ot its prototype. It is a magnificent specimen of workmanship, affording a singular contrast to the glare of scarlet and polished brass, so generally the result of the ornamentation of lire apparatus.The carriage is composed of solid rosewood, silver and polished steel, while on the reel is coiled five hundred feet of new leather hose, ot the most approved fashion.The cost of the magnificent gift was about 13,000. The committee who came the Manhattan iu charge of the carriage was composed of Messrs. Thomas C. Byrnes, Tobias Lawrence, Win. Lamb, and Abrahaiu Cleannan.They were informally received at the wharf by Chief Nathan aud deputation of the Charleston Fire Department.The carriage has been conveyed to the former coach establishment of Mr. Nathan, at the corner of Meeting ami Wentworth streets, where it will he open to the inspection of the public nutil five o’clock this evening, when it will he taken to the Soulli Carolina Kail road depot for shipment to. its final destination. The larger number ot the Committee of Presentation on the part of the New York Association came by rail, aud are expected to reach this city today.Meantime, we would advise our readers to avail themselves of the opportunity to view the handsome apparatus.The Columbia firemen are, making preparations to receive their New York guests.
