Ret maining in Delaware but a short time, th# family removed to Marietta, Ohio, whcr# Lewis began the study of law. The latter began the .practice of his profession inZanesville in 1803. In 1806 he was married to Elizabeth Spencer, and shortly afterwards was elected a member of the Ohio Legislature, in which he drafted the bill to authorize the Governor to break any unauthorized military preparationa w -T l .
