edalia is a third-class city gov erned by a mayor and an eight-person council. The city’s four wards each elect two council members for two-year terms, while the mayor is elected at large once every four years. City Administrator Keith Riesberg is the city chief operating officer, appointed by the City Council with the approval of the mayor, and is responsi ble to the mayor for the administration of all city affairs. The city administra tor directs and super vises the administra tion of all departments, offices and agencies. The law requires the city to prepare an annual budget under the direction of Ries berg, who presents it to the council for approval. The fiscal year is April 1 through March 31. Fire The Fire Depart ment provides Sedalia with fire suppression and rescue services, fire safety education, fire code enforcement, hazardous material response, investiga tions and a juvenile fire setters program. The fire department consists of three com panies staffed 24 hours a day with a total of 41 uniformed employees.
