Mall store to become Fava’s Sport TrendzBy JOHANNA LOVEDelta Democrat TimesWhat’s in a name?Nothing but a franchise.As of July 1, Smith Brothers Sporting Goods in the Greenville Mall will be Fava’s Sport Trendz.Owners Tom and Judi Fava have decided to become completely independent retailers, shedding the Smith Brothers’ franchise.They stress that their name is the only thing changing, not their service or ownership.“We feel that being locally owned and operated is important here in Greenville,” Fava said.He added that they support all the local schools and know the regulations for local league sports play.Fava’s Sport Trendz might be a little different in the image theytry to project, as Fava will try to be on the cutting edge with all the new and different trends in sports fashion. That includes all the new T-shirts, hats, backpacks and shoes, just to name a few, he said.Their most popular brands, according to Fava, are Nike, Russell, Starter, Jansport, New Era, Reebok, Umbro, Head and Tail.Some of the more unusual items you might find in the store are Ole Miss Rebels shoelaces, Notre Dame temporary tattoos, a Dallas Cowboys laundry bag, Mississippi State playing cards, a Denver Broncos wastepaper basket, a Duke basketball goal, M.C, Escher T-shirts, and one of the latest trends, a huge assortment of “Big Johnson” goods.Hours are from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
