Shooting suspect surrenders in EurekaEUREKA — A statewide manhunt ended Sunday when a 26-year-old Eureka man suspected of killing his wife surrendered to police.Alejandro Martinez Diaz was booked into the Humboldt County Jail on suspicion of homicide. He is suspected of shooting to death 'his 24-year-old estranged wife, Lorraine Sue Diaz, and. wounding 'her sister, Lorene K. Kester, 25.The women were shot Wednesday morning at Kester’s home on the 2300 block of A Sheet.Diaz is being held without bail.A Eureka Police Department spokeswoman could not. say this morning 'when or where .Diaz surrendered. She said investigators believe they have the .gun used in the alleged attack, but she did not know whether Diaz had the weapon with him when he surrendered.Lorraine Diaz was dead when police arrived on the scene at 1:30 a.m.... Her sister was shot in. 'the1 chest and was placed in the intensive care unit at St. Joseph Hospital.Kester has since been released from the hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said.Police said Diaz allegedly shot the sisters after a confrontation and while while Kester’s 2-year-okl son was in the home. A neighbor reported that the child was crying when he was carried out of the home about a half hour after police arrived. The child was taken by a Child Welfare Services worker, but later released to his father.Lorraine Diaz was reportedlystaying with her sister after separating from her husband.Neighbor reported being awakened early Wednesday morniiu by several gunshots.One neighbor reported bearing a “high-pitched woman's voice screaming ‘Why, why, why.’”After the attack, neighbors said Kester’s home had been the scene ofnumerous parties and fights, with guests coming and going at allhours,..
