By Florence Duncan (June 25) Are we headed for another ice age? Some scientists have predicted that glaciers will slither down from their usual pattern in years to come. Our weather in the past few days would lead us to think we may be near an iceburg. Maybe a cooling off period before the fireworks. Evidently the bluebird has his family raised since it seems he has more time for song service, his cheery little song is quite a competition for cock robins trilling. The bluebird being a fruit and berry eater has no worry at the present time since this is blackberry season. Jelly making is at a low ebb because of the high price of sugar if only some good sorghum maker would rig up a sorghum mill and farmers would raise cane to make sorghum. Maybe some of us could sop sorghum and do with less jelly The Farm and Ranch section of the Tulsa World paper showed a picture of Dr Floyd Martin, superintendent of the North Williamette Station at Oregon State University. He assisted in experimental works on straw berries and observed the strawberry picker. Floyd was at one time superintendent of the experimental farm in Karen. The strawberry picker that was tried out on the farm here in Baron several years ago was not successful. Paul Mead was superintend ent at that time Food Plentiful Thedas was quite favor able for the dinner at the Baron Baptist Church Sun day. The sunshine was welcomed since the day was unusually cool Food was plentiful as usual and people are not always serf temper ate where food is concerned. We enjoyed having a few visitors fellowship with us. Vernon Bradford was not sure whether he was at fault or if the horse was at fault when he plowed his garden and some of his corn and tomatoes didn’t cone out too good. Tt was possible that Vernon is out of practice and the horse has not had enough practice, so maybe by some more teamwork the garden will flourish and there will be a good supply of corn and tomatoes The Richard Olinger family headed for their home in Albuquerque, NS Mex. Mon day. They planned a stop or two before heading out across the country. Visit in Mena Filove Bel and Linda Chinton made a trip to Mena, Ark., with the Charley Kreigbaum family to visit Mr and Mrs Tom Clinton. Tom is assistant manager in a Wal Mart store in Mena. His wife, Oga, is working in the nursing home. She is the Kreigbaum’s daughter and Tom is Floye Bell's son The drive to Mena is a beautiful drive and to be sure they had a jolly good visit. Sunday. Mr and Mrs Earl Clinton and little son and Mr and Mrs bull Clinton drove down to visit Tom and Oga. Max and Josie McMinn, their daughter, Patsy, and her husband from Spring field, Mo., visited Josie 5 mother, Alice Stansill. Sun day. It has been quite some time since they have been down on a visit. Josie’s sister, Anne Clinton and family enjoyed visiting with them and hope their visits will not be so far apart from now on. Florence Duncan enjoyed having a cousin, Cathe Parker, spend Saturday night and Sunday with her. Cathe has been back in this area about two months visiting relatives and friends. She lives in California where she has been for quite a number of years. Monday morning Susie Crittenden dropped in for a short visit with Florence and to be sure they had quite a chat. There was quite a good representation at the com munity meeting Friday even ing The group decided they definitely want to keep the community property and plan to make every effort to keep it going. Besides a jot of sentiment being attached to the building and grounds, there is a good potential for various activities and other things. Any number of those present at the meeting have memories of school days spent there and have hopes of being a part of future plans. Two board members were elected to fill vacancies created by the resignation of John Moten and Delbert Clinton. The two elected are Carol Wayne Heustis and Gene Woodward. Marilyn Watt and Jennie Underwood volunteered their time and services to canvass the neighborhoods and collect ny donations the people will be willing to give toward meeting the upkeep and other expenses of maintain ing the property. The board of directors hope to do some repair work and encourage the various organizations that need a meeting place to use the facilities here. Like the recoad, “We can be very friend]y ~ Revival services are in progress at the Karon Baptist Church. Brother Newell Hateer from the Eldon C church is the revival preacher. Come and hear God's word sounded forth.
